Programme Overview

The SME-to-Educator Transition Track is a workforce transformation programme that enables organisations to convert critical expert knowledge into scalable workforce capability. By equipping technical specialists to systematically transfer and embed their expertise, organisations can strengthen knowledge continuity, accelerate workforce readiness, and improve operational performance.

Strategic Outcomes
  • Analyse and deconstruct highly complex proprietary technical process into an objective, logical step-by-step written task analysis

  • Create a functional, high-utility OJT checklist or visual troubleshooting job aid for a specific operational machine or system

  • Develop digital micro-learning resources that preserve critical tacit knowledge and enable scalable expertise transfer across teams and locations

  • Deliver an effective 4-step physical or digital technical demonstration (Briefing, Demonstration, Monitored Application, Facilitated Reflection) tailored exactly to the baseline profile of a junior staff or apprentice

  • Evaluate learner performance and deliver evidence-based developmental feedback that improves operational execution, safety and quality outcomes

  • Evaluate a peer's operational performance accurately using a criteria-referenced competency matrix, reducing assessment subjectivity

Workplace Relevance
  • Build lasting internal trainer capability

  • Accelerate onboarding and time-to-competence

  • Safeguard critical knowledge and reduce key-person risk

  • Drive consistent, high-quality technical training across teams

Programme Outline

Module 1: The Identity Shift

Navigating the identity transition and overcoming the structural "curse of knowledge" when moving from expert executor to workplace educator.

Module 2: Knowledge Engineering

Deconstructing intuitive expert execution into transparent, logical technical workflows, isolating "must-know" rules from background theory.

Module 3: Workplace Learning Design

Building standardized OJT blueprints, visual tool guides, quick reference trouble matrices, and clear operational checklists.

Module 4: High-Acuity Field Coaching

Understand the organisational, technological, and operational foundations required to support successful AI adoption. Participants will examine how business needs translate into AI requirements, evaluate technology and integration considerations, and make informed build-versus-buy decisions.

Module 5: Competency Validation

Craft objective, criteria-based rubrics to check safety, environmental compliance and independent task readiness.

Module 6: Craft Reusable Learning Artefacts

Storyboard and record workplace procedures for specialisedoperational contexts, converting paper manuals into mobile-accessible digital job aids.

Module 7: Mentorship Networks

Organise long-term, cross-generational mentoring partnerships to help secure institutional memory.

Module 8: Capstone Project

Apply project planning and implementation skills to deploy a co-created technical package within their department and present the resulting outcomes to a supervisor review panel.
